Stacy Courchaine

Stacy Courchaine’s new CD, Chain of Hearts is available for sale at Lees’ Hardware in Marathon. Proceeds from the sale will be split with half going to the new library project and half to the Marathon Fire Department.

Stacy will also be performing at the Reunion Weekend concert on April 10th. The concert will be held at the Marathon high school auditorium at 7:00 pm. For more information on Stacy Courchaine, please visit www.ourstage.com

Chiefing 101 Recap

The purpose of this document is to recap the three day training session Paul Jaglinski and Craig Klumpyan attended in Appleton on February 20th-22nd, 2009 titled “Wisconsin State Fire Chief’s Association Chiefing 101.”

The seminar focused on a variety of leadership techniques and resource development tools.  The highlights included:

  • An effective communication seminar
  • A workshop on budgeting and finance
  • An update and tip workshop on DNR & FEMA grant writing
  • A Legislative overview
  • Contacts with fellow Fire departments and EMS departments
  • Contacts with Regional response teams and state assocations

The conference was held at the Raddison Paper Valley Hotel. We Attended a roundtable discussion that was a question and answer session with Edmund King from the Town of Neenah Fire department, Brad Liggett from the City of Beloit, and Randy Pickering from the City of Fitchburg. The knowled that these gentlemen provided was invaluable.

Engineering Company Selected for Planning of New Station

The Village Board has selected SEH from 16 companies to complete phase one architectural and engineering work for the Marathon City Fire Department.  SEH brings  lot of experience and knowledge to the task and will be working cooperatively with the Village and Fire Department representatives to produce a design concept and costs estimate for the April 7, 2009 referendum.

Over the next few weeks multiple meetings and discovery sessions will be held to finalize facility requirements and to begin the design process.  The result will be a very functional, attactive, and durable facility that will serve the Village and surrounding townships for decades.

Show-n-Tell

One lucky 2nd grader, Calista Bruner, brought in her Stepdad, Firefighter Ryan Dallman for show-n-tell. Special Thanks to Marathon Area Elementary School for it’s support for the Marathon Fire Department and fire safety programs.

Holly Days Chili Contest

The Marathon Area Business Association (MABA) held its annual Holly Days celebration on Saturday December 13th. Marathon Fire Department commissioned village resident, Russell Gage to whip up a batch of his famous chili for this years Holly Days chili contest. Firefighters Jason Gage and Jack Flood served the chili at this event.

Server for a day

Ryan Dallman, Craig Klumpyan, Tim Zuleger and Caitlin O’Connor of the Marathon First Responder and Fire Department volunteered their time at Texas Roadhouse of Rib Mountain, WI. On Thursday December 11th Texas Roadhouse served a free lunch to it’s guests. Members of the local fire service and police department were on hand to serve the meal. All proceeds were to benefit the Salvation Army of Wausau.

Cub Scout Station Tour

The Tiger Cubs of cub scout pack 358 in Marathon had the opportunity to hold their monthly meeting at the Marathon fire station. The scouts took a station tour and got to check out all of the fire trucks. The scouts also had a brief lesson on fire safety and planned an escape route if a fire were to occur in their own home. The Marathon Fire station and Volunteers are available for station tours and fire prevention presentations. For more information email ryan@marathonfd.com

MFD Request for Proposal

On Thursday, November 20, the Village Board approved the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Marathon Fire Station project.  The RFP will be released to a number of identified firms and will be published in the Record Review.

RFP responses will be submitted to the Village by January 7, 2009.  A firm will be selected based on the responses and the project is planned for referendum in April.
